Neglected Holocaust

Remembering the Deportation of the Jews in Prekmurje, Slovenia

Study Material

This collection of resources is to be used by individuals, teachers and pupils, or as a teaching material in history classes. It aims to provide resources and information that may enhance awareness and knowledge about the Holocaust, with particular focus on the Slovenian situation.

It is divided into five sections.

The story of the Prekmurje Jews hosts short biographic information about the Hiršl family, the family which, most of the Prekmurje Jews alike, disappeared almost entirely in the Holocaust.

In the e-books section you can find two e-books, the textbook for pupils and handbook for teachers, thematising the disappearance of Slovenian Jewish community and wider historical background.

The map gives locations from where the Prekmurje Jews were deported and the locations of deportation centres.

Dolga vas Jewish cemetery hosts a link to an extensive database containing photographs of tombstones and a detailed plan of the graves’ locations.

Additional resources section contains a selection of links to relevant websites (associations, museums, etc.) and a number of links to thematisation of the Holocaust in popular culture, particularly film and music.
